The Fred Lohman Company offers high quality reproduction Menuki, Sarute and the odd parts scavenged from old WW-2 Koshirae. Most WW-2 sword blades are in very poor condition and in need of polishing and the replacement or repair of the old handles.
Menuki and Sarute are the most frequently replaced parts and our replacement parts will fit your swords handle with little effort. Replacement of a Kashira (Kobuto-gane) is a little more difficult (but not impossible) because not all handles and Kopbuto-gane are identical. Adding one generally requires some adjustment to the wooden portion of the handle.
Replacing Ishizuki, Semegane or Haikan creates a much bigger problem if you have a metal Saya because unlike a wood handle which can be enlarged or reduced in size to fit the metal part, it is not possible to easily 'adjust' metal parts to fit a metal Saya.
We have the same colored silk wrapping cord (Tsuka-ito) as was on WW-2 swords and Stingray skins to finish the job.
We produce new wood liners to fit metal Saya as it is important that a freshly polished blade never be put back into a dirty and contaminated Saya which is guaranteed to scratch and stain your blade.
Equally important is the fact that our workers are the most highly skilled in the Country and have for the most part been 'Japanese trained' and know what they are doing.
Investing into the professional restoration of a WW-2 sword is a smart idea as these swords have increased in value faster than many other antiques and are projected to continue to do so.
