| # 1. | Never do business with a Sword Company where the owner will not post his name, his phone and address on his web site. It's a BAD sign ! |
| # 2. |
CAUTION NOTE: Be careful to who and where you send your sword for appraisal, repairs, sharpening or polishing as some swords have been known to disappear once in the hands of unscrupulous persons...or, in spite of their claims, their 'repairs' are poorly done. Anyone can 'hang out a shingle' and claim to be skilled and qualified but if they are not a life member of the Japanese Sword Society or are unable to provide solid and legitimate references, use caution. If you deal with a person who claims to be a expert and you have a problem with him, and this problem cannot be resolved to your satisfaction, let us know and we will do what we can to help. |
| # 3. | A West
Coast sword dealer who has a large and impressive web site tells those
who contact him (the scam starts) that their sword could be worth a very
large amount of money and while
he is almost positive, he cannot tell for sure until the blade is
inspected by him... or perhaps after he has the time to
'open a window' (polish a small area) on the blade to study it. He recently convinced a
lady that she had a very valuable sword and that she should spend $3,500 to
have him polish it. Later, when she had the opportunity to take it to a sword show
to have it appraised, it was valued at $600.
