The Sword polishing KIT

THE POLISHING KITFor those who want to learn Japanese sword polishing, the KIT offers the biggest bang for the buck!  Included in the kit are all 6 stones, from the Arato (#1) to the Uchigumorido (#6). A hardened tool steel burnishing rod, Hazuya & Jizuya finger stones, a premixed bottle (small) of Nugui, a Narumei-dai, Tsunoko powder and 3 different shaping stones that are used to maintain the proper shape of all polishing stones that change with use.  Because of the high cost associated with individual stones, it can be safely assumed that the kit possesses stones and other materials that are somewhat smaller and of a lower quality.  The KIT remains popular and is considered the best all round way for a beginner to learn to do the job!

Note:  As a word of caution, before any attempt is made to polish a sword, (and quite possibly ruin a 'national treasure' blade), please take your sword to one of the Sword Shows for evaluation by at least two or more sword dealers.

SWORD POLISHING INFORMATION:  We have accumulated a number of articles dealing with sword polishing including several articles given us recently by Mr. Leon Kapp.  This information (about 25 pages) is available to all.  To order yours, please send $10 to cover the cost of printing and postage.  This information is included in the polishing kit at no additional cost.

RECOMMENDED READING:

The 'TOKEN YURAN' is the most important Japanese sword evaluation book printed in the last 10 years.  Hot off the press in the spring of 2003, It contains a listing of all sword values and a whole lot more other very useful information.  Printed in Japanese and priced at only $50, it is a MUST for buyers and sellers of Japanese swords and those interested in confirming the current value of their swords.  Included with the book at no additional cost is an up to date (English) index.

THE CRAFT OF THE JAPANESE SWORD: (ISBN # 0-87011-798-x). Mr. Leon Kapp and Yoshindo Yoshihira are co-authors of the most informative self help book that deals with Japanese sword restoration projects. Although we do not sell  this book, it can easily be purchased from Amazon.com or many of the other book suppliers.  This book contains a wealth of information dealing with the making of swords, the polishing process, Habaki making and Saya carving. Highly recommended reading!

SWORD POLISHING STONES: Because of the high prices associated with low quality stones, the Fred Lohman Company is no longer involved as a supplier of polishing stones. We will continue to offer on a limited basis most all other sword polishing  and sword maintenance materials.
